DiGiknight Kokurou was sleeping soundly in his bed on a fine Sunday morning, dreaming of looking at a gorgeous sunset on a beach with his best pal, Arc Jam. ¡§Isn¡¦t it a little like life out here?¡¨ Koku asked Jam with a serious, dreamy-like expression on his face, ¡§Can¡¦t you just feel how insignificant we are? I mean, looking at the sky, not many people know it, but all that beautiful colors are pollution? It¡¦s very pretty, but it sort of encourages people to pollute. What do you think Jam?¡¨

Jam just looked at Kokurou with a blank expression on his face. Kokurou sighed, ¡§Well, I guess you just wouldn¡¦t understand, would you dude?¡¨ Jam kept the blank look. He wasn¡¦t about to give it up just yet. ¡§Geez! You sure are being indifferent today,¡¨ Kokurou laid down on the sand and closed his eyes.

When he opened them again, he found that Jam was on top of him. ¡§What are you doing buddy?¡¨ he asked, ¡§Get off me!¡¨ Jam didn¡¦t listen. Jam grabbed his friend¡¦s hands and pinned him to the ground.

¡§What the hell are you doing?!¡¨ Kokurou screamed, ¡§Let off me, now!¡¨ He then noticed Jam¡¦s eyes were as black as coals. Jam began to dig his nails into Kokurou¡¦s arm. Koku let out a scream of anguish as Jam brought his face down next to Koku¡¦s ear.

¡§You can¡¦t save me now,¡¨ Jam said in a voice that was not his own, ¡§Don¡¦t try to stop me.¡¨

¡K

Kokurou woke up in a nervous sweat. His brown fur was matted to the sheets he slept on. ¡§Hey, you awake yet?¡¨ a voice asked. Kokurou tensed and prepared for anything. Then Jam walked into the room. Kokurou gripped his covers even more tightly. ¡§Geez! What happened to you?¡¨ Jam asked sarcastically.

Kokurou relaxed when he found Jam was acting as normal as ever. What was that dream? Koku thought, It seemed so real! But Jam would never do that. Would he? ¡§Everything¡¦s fine,¡¨ Koku lied, ¡§Nothing happened.¡¨

Jam looked him over and noticed his matted down fur. ¡§And I guess you just came in from a walk?¡¨ he laughed and tossed Kokurou a pair of pants as he walked out the door.

¡K

It was midday and Koku and Jam had just finished playing a game of volleyball with Arc Kee. ¡§Looks like I win again!¡¨ he said as he laughed at Arc Jam, ¡§Same time tomorrow?¡¨

Kokurou, who was the referee, laughed. ¡§Sure, see you tomorrow!¡¨ Arc Jee left the scene and Koku walked over to Jam who was staring into space.

¡§Hey Jam,¡¨ Koku asked, ¡§Nice game! You almost beat him! One more point and you¡¦d have won.¡¨ Jam didn¡¦t answer. He just stood and stared at nothing. ¡§Hello? Jam, are you okay?¡¨

¡§What?¡¨ Jam said, returning to life, ¡§Y-yeah, I¡¦m fine. Just a little tired.¡¨

¡§O-okay,¡¨ Koku said, a little concerned, ¡§I¡¦ll see you back at the house later. As Kokurou walked off, he didn¡¦t notice that when Jam rubbed his eyes, they flashed black.

¡K

After dinner, Kokurou and Jam went out on the beach to see the sunset. Koku was so startled because it was just like his dream. The beautiful waves of pollution in the sky surrounding the Sun looked just like it had in the dream. The feeling was the same too: warmth; just plain warmth with his friend, and how real it felt too.

Koku decided to tell Jam about the dream, just to tell someone you know? ¡§Hey Jam?¡¨ Koku asked, ¡§I got something to tell you dude.¡¨ Jam wasn¡¦t paying any attention, but Kokurou didn¡¦t notice. ¡§I just wanted to say that something had happened last night.¡¨ Jam eyes grew black, but he shook his head. ¡§It was about you.¡¨ Jam couldn¡¦t stop himself any longer.

¡K

Jam was having a war with some outside force inside him. He could hear Kokurou talking about that morning. Jam tried to answer, but the thing inside him wouldn¡¦t stop trying to control him. Jam found himself slipping.

The thing wanted to hurt Koku and Jam wouldn¡¦t allow that. He gave as much a fight as the thing did.

     Kokurou.

Memories flooded Jam¡¦s head. Memories of Koku and himself playing together as kids, playing pranks on him, and many other memories that threatened to pull him away from the inside fight. The thing knew what Jam was thinking and used that to it¡¦s advantage. Jam was overcome.

The thing swelled up inside Jam like a balloon. It wouldn¡¦t let him move. Jam found himself being moved on top of Koku as he lay down and closed his eyes. Jam, with black eyes, pinned Kokurou to the sand. He dug his nails into Koku¡¦s arm. Using all of his strength, he managed to move his head down to Kokurou¡¦s ear.

¡K

¡§It was a really scary dream,¡¨ Koku said as he laid down on the sand and closed his eyes. He didn¡¦t realize that that was part of his dream. He then felt a weight on top of him and opened his eyes. Jam was on top of Kokurou, pinning him to the ground, and Jam then dug his nails into his arms. Koku screamed as Jam lowered his head next to Koku¡¦s ear and said in a voice that wasn¡¦t his own:

¡K

¡§You can¡¦t save me now,¡¨ Jam was surprised out how much his voice had changed. He didn¡¦t want Koku to get hurt. He was about to say more, but the thing blocked him off. ¡§Don¡¦t try to stop me now,¡¨ it said. Jam then felt himself being pulled away from his body as the thing took over. Jam screamed internally as he was pushed out of his body. Right before Jam blacked out, he could hear the thing laughing and Koku screaming.

¡K

Koku woke up in the same way as he did the other morning: sweat completely covering his body. He scratched his tusk absent-mindedly. What was that? Koku thought, That was the same dream, or was it? Then an urgent thought crept into his mind. Jam! Where was he? He always met Kokurou in the morning.

Koku went outside and found that Arc Kee was out playing volleyball with Jam. ¡§What¡¦s going on?¡¨ Kokurou asked, ¡§Why didn¡¦t you wake me up, Jam?¡¨

Before Jam could say anything, Arc Kee spoke up. ¡§Jam asked me to play. I asked where you were and he said sleeping. Do you know it¡¦s almost noon?¡¨

Koku was hurt that Jam hadn¡¦t thought that he was sick or something. ¡§Why did you start playing without a ref?¡¨ Koku asked. If anything, he wanted to judge the game.

¡§I thought you were sick and wouldn¡¦t want to be ref,¡¨ Kee said, ¡§Jam said you¡¦d probably be asleep till later. He said you were up pretty late last night.¡¨ Well, at least Arc Kee was worried about him.

¡§Funny, I don¡¦t remember partying or anything last night,¡¨ Koku said. He then saw something weird about Jam. ¡§Jam, could I see you in the house for a second?¡¨ Kokurou asked with a stern look.

¡§Uh, sure,¡¨ Jam said, ¡§I guess.¡¨ They walked off, leaving a bewildered looking Arc Kee behind them.

Inside Kokurou pulled Jam in and locked the door. ¡§Why did you do that?¡¨ Jam asked, ¡§Couldn¡¦t we do this outside?¡¨ Kokurou punched him in the face. ¡§Ow! Why¡¦d you do that?¡¨ Koku just punched him again. ¡§Geez, man! Stop it!¡¨ Koku wouldn¡¦t stop. He kept punching until Jam¡¦s face was bloody.

¡§What the hell is wrong with you?!¡¨ Jam yelled as he wiped blood from his eyes, which were a startling shade of black.

¡K

Jam opened his eyes. He couldn¡¦t see anything, but he knew his eyes were open. ¡§Where am I?¡¨ he inquired to nobody, ¡§What is this?¡¨ Suddenly, behind him, a light turned on, illuminating his surroundings. He was floating in nothing. Just swirls of color and light.

     Light!

The thing behind him! He turned around and saw a screen. It was like an oval TV. The ¡§screen¡¨ showed a familiar looking dragon. It was him!

¡§What the hell are you doing?!¡¨ the Jam on the screen yelled. His face was bloody. Wait, something was wrong with the eyes. They were black. Jam then saw a brown, hairy arm punch the screen Jam in the gut. That was Koku¡¦s arm! Jam thought, He knows that¡¦s not me! But what is it?

¡K

¡§God! What¡¦s wrong with you!¡¨ the fake Jam yelled.

     ¡§You¡¦re not Jam,¡¨ Koku said.

     ¡§What?¡¨ Jam said, ¡§Of course I¡¦m Jam! Why wouldn¡¦t I be?!¡¨

Kokurou felt a little guilt for punching his friend, but then he saw the eyes, those terrible black eyes, and then all guilt disappeared. ¡§You¡¦re not Jam,¡¨ he said again.

The fake Jam¡¦s eyes sparkled. ¡§You¡¦re nuts,¡¨ he said.

¡§Look,¡¨ Koku said, holding Jam against the wall, ¡§the real Jam doesn¡¦t have black eyes.

The fake smiled and said: ¡§Bingo. The only part I couldn¡¦t change. You¡¦re a lot smarter than I gave you credit for.¡¨

¡§Where¡¦s the real Jam?¡¨ Koku asked with ferocity, ¡§Where?!¡¨

The fake Jam laughed, and his laugh, which Koku noticed, was a lot deeper than usual. This thing wasn¡¦t bothering to hold up the Jam charade any longer. The eyes glowed brighter.

¡K

Jam had watched all this through the screen. ¡§No!¡¨ he screamed at the screen as he tried to break through it, ¡§No! Let me help him!¡¨ Jam kept smacking his shoulder into the screen. He hit the screen 3, 4, 5 times. Nothing happened. He whacked it one more time and a tiny crack! was heard from it. Jam looked close and saw a tiny crack. He smacked the screen one more time, and it shattered. ¡§Yes!¡¨ he screamed. He passed through where the screen used to be and nothing happened. ¡§Shit!¡¨ he cried, ¡§Why can¡¦t this damn thing work!¡¨ Now he couldn¡¦t even watch what would happen.

Jam sat on the air, I guess, and thought about all that he and Koku had been through together. As he sat, a bright light erupted in front of him. ¡§What the he-¡¨ he said as he was sucked inside it.

¡K

Jam blinked and tried to figure out where he was. His vision was a little blurry. He suddenly felt an itch on his neck. He raised his arm and, even though his vision was blurry, he could tell it was brown. ¡§What the hell?!¡¨ he cried, ¡§What¡¦s wrong with my arm?¡¨ He was surprised to find that his voice was different, but incredibly familiar.

¡§Welcome back to reality, Jam,¡¨ a voice said. It was deep and sounded like the thing.

¡K

Kokurou felt a presence fill up inside him. What it was he didn¡¦t know. He was caught off-guard, so the presence took hold almost immediately.

Koku blinked. His vision had become blurry. He felt an itch on the back of his neck. He raised his arm and said suddenly: ¡§What the hell?! What¡¦s wrong with my arm?¡¨ Why did he do that? It was completely not of his accord. Who did that? Was it the presence?

The fake Jam had then spoken. ¡§Welcome back Jam.¡¨ Whoa, wait a minute! Koku thought, Jam?! That couldn¡¦t be right. Wait, was Jam the presence?

¡§Hello, Jam,¡¨ the thing said in a guttural tone, ¡§I see you¡¦re back. Well, you won¡¦t pay much of a threat right now. In a couple years maybe, but not now. As you probably know right now, you¡¦re controlling Kokurou¡¦s body.¡¨

¡§What?¡¨ Jam asked, surprised. ¡§No! Where is Koku?!¡¨

¡§Probably trapped inside his own body. Pretty weird, huh? Anyway, you¡¦re probably wondering why I¡¦m here.¡¨

¡§No, I don¡¦t,¡¨ Jam said sternly, ¡§I just want to destroy you!¡¨ He lunged at the thing (which was now a little more black than usual.) The thing just laughed and easily avoided the attack.

¡§You really think you can destroy me?¡¨ it laughed, ¡§Nobody can kill me! I¡¦m the darkness in everyone¡¦s hearts! Destroy me and I¡¦ll only come back with more vengeance!¡¨ Then, it started to grow. He turned completely black and just kept growing. Jam was forced to back up into the wall where he felt a sharp pain. He looked back and realized that he had just backed into their sword case. Instinctively, Jam grabbed his sword, but then Koku¡¦s other arm reached and grabbed Kokurou¡¦s sword.

Kokurou, Jam thought, are you here? Do you have some control?

Yes, Koku thought back, I¡¦m here. I want to help fight. We stick together, remember?

Yeah, I do. Shall we kick some darkness butt?

     Yes, we shall.

The darkness creature was to it¡¦s full potential now. It had no feet, but could move extremely fast. It had long black hair that was so greasy; you could make a hamburger out of that. It¡¦s mouth, eyes, and nose were stitched together like a shrunken head. It had many arms, each wielding a different weapon. Some held bows and arrows while most held different types of swords. ¡§Well,¡¨ it said, ¡§prepare to die!¡¨

Koku and Jam were ready for this. They moved together with such timing they evaded and the speed-of-light attack. The monster roared and dashed at them again, swinging the weapons and firing arrows wildly. Jam did the work on evading and Koku swung in an arc and managed to cut off two or three arms. ¡§Great,¡¨ he said, ¡§about twenty more to go.¡¨

The monster laughed as two new arms grew out of his sides and picked up the weapons. ¡§What?!¡¨ Jam and Koku screamed, ¡§How the hell did that happen! I cut his arm off!¡¨

¡§I told you that you can¡¦t beat me! Anything you hit will immediately grow back.¡¨ And with that said, the creature started to attack even more ferociously.

How do we beat him?! Jam asked, We can try to cut off his head or something. That might work.

That won¡¦t work! He said that everything grows back!

Well, maybe he can¡¥t do it without a brain. It¡¦s worth a shot right?

Fine, let¡¦s try it. Jam swung his sword down and landed a blow to the head. The creature let out an ulp! As his head fell to the ground and melted into nothing. It¡¦s body just fell over.

Is that it? Did it work? Jam asked. They walked up to the now still body and heard laughing. The body sat up. ¡§Did you really think that would work?¡¨ it said as it¡¦s head reformed, ¡§Why don¡¦t you try something else?¡¨

Just then, Koku had an idea. ¡§Why did you come after us?¡¨ Koku asked. What are you doing?! Jam thought.

Buying time, Kokurou replied, Maybe he¡¦ll tell us how to kill him. On another note think of how to kill him!

¡§Why? Because you two are the only ones with pure hearts.¡¨

     ¡§What?¡¨ Kokurou asked in surprise.

¡§Everyone has darkness in their hearts. Even the most thoughtful and kind people you could ever know, except for you two. You don¡¦t believe anything bad can happen to anyone. That¡¦s why you fight the darkness you see before you. You correct the hearts of everyone you meet, slowly draining my power.¡¨ Cha-ching! Jam thought. ¡§You two act as if you don¡¦t have any darkness at all. That¡¦s why I¡¦m here: to show you that you do have darkness. It was just a small sliver before I showed up. Being with me right now is making that darkness grow and grow until your entire bodies are consumed and you become like me.¡¨

¡§Become like you?¡¨ Jam said, ¡§No thanks.¡¨ He swung his sword and cut off three more arms. They just grew back and yet, Jam kept swinging; chopping off as many appendages as he could.

Kokurou thought to himself about what the thing had said: It weakens with light. But he¡¦s standing in the sun right now! He should be incredibly weak! Hmm¡K He must mean the light from the heart! But how do we show that?

What¡¦cha doin? Jam asked, Aren¡¦t you going to help me?

I think I know what to do! Open your heart.

     What?

     Just do it!

     How?

I don¡¦t know! Maybe it¡¦ll come naturally! Just concentrate!

¡§Now time to finish you!¡¨ the darkness cried. Jam and Koku watched in fear as the thing¡¦s eyes, nose, and mouth unstitched. The strings fell away and the holes opened. Nothing but darkness came from them. Kokurou told Jam to fight the dark, but it just crept out. IT seeped onto the floor and started to crawl up their body. ¡§No!¡¨ Jam and Koku yelled, but it was no use. The shadow grabbed them and pulled them inside the creature.

¡K

Nothing but darkness was all that Kokuro and Jam could see. They were floating in a pool of dark. Jam¡¦s soul flew out of Kokurou and took his old form. Their weapons were still on the outside so they couldn¡¦t fight their way out. ¡§Now what?¡¨ Soul Jam asked.

¡§I don¡¦t know. Maybe we can defeat him from in here,¡¨ Koku replied and then let out a cry of anguish. It felt as if his heart was stabbed.

¡§Koku, are you ok...Argh!¡¨ Jam cried as he felt the same thing. They felt totally new thoughts. They wanted to kill all their friends. They wanted to destroy everything! No, wait this can¡¦t be right! Kokurou thought, Keep a good grip on what¡¦s right! A light began to shine where his heart was. I-I opened my heart? Jam! You¡¦ve got to do the same!

Jam was thinking thoughts of murder and anarchy. He shook his head and tried to keep his mind going on the right path. IT was hard and he almost didn¡¦t make it. But then he saw Kokurou¡¦s light. IT was very bright and he wanted his to be like that to. He felt Koku¡¦s hand in his and that¡¦s when the light shone. It wasn¡¦t coming from his heart, though. It was coming from his body, which was floating a few feet away. Jam sailed into it and his light grew brighter. ¡§Let¡¦s fight together,¡¨ he said. Koku nodded and the shone their lights brighter.

¡K

Outside the thing was laughing at how easily he had beaten the only two kids who could stand in his way. ¡§Heh, heh. Ulp!¡¨ he cried as two bright lights flew out from his abdomen. ¡§No!¡¨ he screamed as a person desinigrated in front of him. It was like a mix of both Koku and Jam, which in fact it was. They were Jam¡¦s hair and head-band, but Koku¡¦s fur and tusks. ¡§You will not hurt any more people,¡¨ they said. It was wounded and Kokurou and Jam somehow knew that they could kill it without it ever returning for at least an eternity. ¡§Go to hell!¡¨ they yelled as they picked up their sword and slashed it¡¦s head off. It disappeared in the same way it¡¦s head did. The creatures last words were: ¡§I am hell!¡¨

Koku and Jam then split apart and looked at each other and bust out laughing. ¡§That was awesome!¡¨ Jam excitedly proclaimed.

     ¡§Yes it was,¡¨ Kokurou agreed.

Then, they heard knocking on the front door. ¡§Hello? Are you guys alright? I thought I heard fighting!¡¨ It was poor Arc Kee. How long had the left him? Five, ten minutes? They opened the door and Kee stepped in. ¡§You guys ready for another round?¡¨ he said holding up a volleyball.

Kokurou and Jam smiled. ¡§Sure,¡¨ they said and headed off to the beach.
